Can cats drink coffee?
The short answer is no.
The longer answer is absolutely not. Caffeine is actually a dangerous and toxic drug to cats and can even lead to their death.
So what happens if my cat suddenly decides to drink some coffee? Firstly, don’t panic. A tiny amount of ingested milky coffee is unlikely to cause any side effects as a one off. So how much should you worry about?
A lethal dose for cats (and dogs) is approximately 150mg/kg of body weight. To put that in perspective, a regular instant coffee can contain over 60mg of caffeine per teaspoon. So for a 3 kg cat, just 8 teaspoons could be potentially fatal.
